How To Register

If you are 18 years old, a U.S. citizen, and a resident of Liberty County, you may register to vote. Sixteen and seventeen year olds may preregister and will receive their card in the mail after their 18th birthday. You are not entitled to register if… 

  • You have been adjudicated mentally incapacitated with regard to voting in Florida or any other state and you have not had your rights restored pursuant to law.
  • You have been convicted of a felony by any court of record and you have not had your right to vote restored pursuant to law.

Having your right to vote restored requires a formal application process through the Office of Executive Clemency in Tallahassee. For further information, contact them directly at (850) 488-2952 or visit their website.

To register to vote you must complete a Florida Voter
Registration Application. A currently registered voter may use
the Florida Voter Registration Application to do the following:

  • Address Change
  • Party Change
  • Name Change
  • Card Replacement
  • Signature Update

With the implementation of the Florida Voter Registration System (FVRS), which is a statewide database of all registered voters, a voter who is currently registered in another county and moves to a new location within the state of Florida will now only be required to complete an address change instead of a new registration. A voter registration application must be completed, indicating the address change.

Social Service agencies
Veterans Affairs offices

After completing and signing the voter registration application, it can be mailed (see note below) or delivered to the Supervisor of Elections’ office. A voter information card will be mailed to the applicant approximately one week after the application is processed.

On October 29, 2002, federal legislation, the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA) was signed into law. Florida legislation was passed to incorporate HAVA into our own election laws. One element of HAVA requires that individuals who register by mail on or after January 1, 2003, and have not previously been registered in the state of Florida, and do not qualify for one of several exemptions, must provide a copy of a current and valid identification along with their application.

Register by Mail

If you are registering by mail, have never voted in Florida, have not been issued a Florida driver’s license, Florida identification card, or Social Security number, you are required to provide additional identification before voting the first time. To avoid problems when you go vote, please provide a copy of the required identification (listed below) at the time you mail your application.

You may provide a copy of one of the following photo identifications (ID) that includes your name & photo (Acceptable forms of identification):  

  • United States Passport
  • Debit/credit card
  • Military identification
  • Student identification
  • Retirement center identification
  • Neighborhood association identification
  • Public assistance identification

Or, you may provide a copy of the following documents that list your name & current residential address:

  • Bank statement
  • Government check
  • Paycheck
  • Utility bill
  • Other government document

Or, you may provide a copy of the following documents that list your name & current residential address:

  • Bank statement

If you are one of the following, you are exempt from having to provide a copy of an ID at this time:

Exemptions include:

  • Persons age 65 and older
  • Persons with a temporary or permanent disability
  • Members of the active uniformed service or merchant marine who, by reason of such active duty, are absent from the county
  • Spouse or dependent of an active uniformed service member or merchant marine who, by reason of the active duty or service of the member are absent from the county
  • Persons currently residing outside the U.S. who are eligible to vote in Florida

Register Online

The Florida Voter Registration Application Form is used to register to vote in the State of Florida.

Eligibility to register to vote in Florida also depends on the applicant swearing or affirming to an oath, signing and dating the application form.

Updating REgistration

After you are registered to vote, it is important to keep your voter registration record up to date with your current addressname, and desired party affiliation. You can update your voter registration records or replace your voter information card by calling and requesting one, by sending a written, signed request or acompleted Florida Voter Registration Application Form (see online forms below) to the Supervisor of Elections office. A new voter information card will be mailed to you when your request is processed. 

Florida Statutes requires the Supervisor of Elections to inform voters of the method to update their registration signature. Voters may update their signature by completing a Florida Voters Registration Application Form, including your signature and mailing it to the address below.
